The 22nd International Conference on Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology

The Story Behind DESRIST 2027

Artificial intelligence is changing what we design, how we design, and who takes part in design. For design science research, this raises pressing questions: How do we build and evaluate AI-based artifacts rigorously? How do we account for systems that keep learning and changing after deployment? And how can design knowledge about AI accumulate, travel across contexts and make a difference in practice?

With the theme “Pathway for Design Research on AI”, DESRIST 2027 invites researchers and practitioners to chart these paths together: from problem framing and artifact design to evaluation, theorizing and real-world impact. We welcome work that uses AI to advance design science, work that designs AI-based systems, and critical reflection on what AI means for the design science community.

The conference logo captures this idea: a path winding from the shore of Lake Michigan into the Chicago skyline.

The Human-centered Analytics Lab (HAL) is an interdisciplinary research lab that studies how people interact with technology. It brings computer science, statistics, psychology and information systems together to frame, evaluate and solve real-world problems, including recent work on pathways for design research on artificial intelligence.
